Ackman, Charles F., Westmount, Que.; McGill University, 1960; urology; FACS, FRCSC; former senior urologist, Montreal General, Royal Victoria and Montreal Chinese hospitals; associate professor, McGill University. Died May 24, 2002, aged 66; survived by his wife, Patricia, and 5 children.

Black, J. Howard, Vancouver; University of Toronto, 1936; FCFP; former medical director, St. Vincent's Hospital; senior member, CMA. Died May 10, 2002, aged 89; survived by his wife, Helen, and 3 children. “In 1955 he was cofounder and president of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.”

Davis, Marjorie I., Toronto; University of Toronto, 1935; general surgery; FRCSC; former associate chief of surgery, surgeon-in-chief and staff, Women's College Hospital; professor emeritus, University of Toronto. Died May 18, 2002, aged 90. “She is survived by her longtime employee, friend and, in later years, caregiver extraordinaire, Della Smith.”

DuVal, Frederic W., Winnipeg; University of Manitoba, 1950; general surgery; DABS, FRCSC; former staff, Health Sciences Centre; attending staff, Children's Centre; associate professor, University of Manitoba. Died May 14, 2002, aged 77; survived by his wife, Ethel.

Flagler, Elizabeth A., Calgary; University of Alberta, 1970; obstetrics/gynecology; FRCSC; former staff, Foothills and Grace hospitals and Tom Baker Cancer Centre; clinical instructor and associate professor, University of Calgary. Died May 12, 2002, aged 55; survived by her friend and life companion, Maggie, and Jasper the golden retriever. “She was awarded the YWCA Women of Distinction Award in 1997.”

Holland, John B., Ayr, Ont.; University of London (England), 1951; LRCP, MRCS, DObstRCOG; RAF, WW II; former associate staff, Kitchener- Waterloo, St. Mary's General, Freeport and Cambridge Memorial hospitals. Died May 9, 2002, aged 74; survived by his wife, Sheila, and 3 children.

Maguire, Webster T., Vancouver; University of Toronto, 1936; FASAS; former staff, Vancouver General, St. Paul's and Grace hospitals. Died May 11, 2002, aged 91; survived by a daughter. “He practised medicine and surgery in Kitsilano for over 60 years.”

McCreary, Robert H., Arnprior, Ont.; Queen's University, 1929; pediatrics; FAAP, FRCPC; former staff, Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital; emeritus staff, Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario; senior member, CMA. Died May 15, 2002, aged 97.

McManamon, Patrick J., St. John's; National University of Ireland, 1965; diagnostic radiology; FRCPC; former chair, Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Health Sciences Centre; chair and professor, Department of Radiology, Memorial University. Died of pancreatic cancer May 24, 2002, aged 64; survived by his wife, Mairead, and 3 children. “Paddy helped spearhead a campaign to acquire an MRI machine, a major advance for health care in Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Millar, Thomas P., Vancouver; McGill, 1951; psychiatry; FRCPC; fighter pilot, RCAF, WW II; former associate physician, Lions Gate Hospital. Died of cancer July 12, 2002, aged 79; survived by 4 children. “He was wounded twice. He wrote several books, including The Omnipotent Child. His was an active mind to the end.”

Ostime, Maurice J., Victoria; University of London (England), 1954; MCFP; former staff, Peel Memorial Hospital; general practice staff, Wellesley Hospital; teaching staff, University of Toronto. Died May 12, 2002, aged 82; survived by his wife, Barbara, and 4 children.

Renner, William A., Summerstown, Ont.; Hamburg University (Germany), 1945; diagnostic radiology; FRCPC; former staff, Hotel Dieu Hospital; associate staff, Macdonell and Glengarry Memorial hospitals. Died Oct. 1, 2001, aged 80.

Died May 21, 2002, aged 62; survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Midgley, and children, Dr. Janet, Dr. Peter, Ross and Kirsten.
