Deakin, Barry, Salmon Arm, BC; University of Manchester (England), 1958; diagnostic radiology, CRCP, FRCPC; former head, Department of Radiology, Shuswap Lake General, Golden General and Queen Victoria hospitals; staff, Mills Memorial Hospital. Died Apr. 16, 2000, aged 65; survived by his wife, Andrea, and 2 children. Colleague Michel Saab commented: ”He is well remembered for his quiet manner, great sense of humour, love of nature and the mountains. The longer you knew him, the more you appreciated and respected him.”

Delage, Jean-Marie J., Québec; Université Laval, 1946; hématologie; FACP, FRCPC; ancien directeur de laboratoire de l‚HÔpital Saint-Sacrement; expert-conseil auprès du département d‚hématologie de l‚HÔpital HÔtel-Dieu, de l‚HÔpital de Sainte-Foy (Anciens Combattants Canada) et de l‚HÔpital Saint-François d‚Assise; professeur émérite à l‚Université Laval; membre émérite de l‚AMC. Décédé le 14 février 2000, à l‚âge de 78 ans.

Dykeman, Douglas L., Richmond, Que.; McGill University, 1953; general practice; MCFP; former captain, RCAMC; courtesy staff, Sherbrooke Hospital Centre; medical director and attending physician, the Wales Home. Died Apr. 12, 2000, aged 80; survived by 4 children.

Hammerling, James S., Halifax; New York Medical College, 1933; otolaryngology; FACS, FABOt; Bronze Star, US Army Medical Corps, WW II; physician-in-chief, Department of Otolaryngology, Victoria General and I.W.K. Children‚s hospitals and Halifax Infirmary; first chair and professor emeritus, Dalhousie University. He developed the otolaryngology residency training program at Dalhousie University and remained in active office practice until age 88. Died Dec. 12, 1999, aged 92; survived by his wife, Dr. Anne Linder Hammerling, and daughters Dr. Judith Gold and Dr. Victoria Rosenberg.

Ingber, Michael E., North York, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1973; family medicine; CCFP; former staff, Centenary Health Centre. Died of a heart attack while jogging Apr. 15, 2000, aged 51; survived by his wife, Dr. Linda, and 3 children.

Kernahan, Desmond A., Chicago; University of Otago (New Zealand), 1946; plastic surgery. Died of prostate cancer Aug. 11, 1999, aged 78; survived by his wife, Jose.

Leblanc, Jean-Luc, Saint-Lambert, Que.; University of Montreal, 1952; pediatrics; MCAA, FRCPC; former clinical assistant professor, Montreal Children‚s Hospital. Died Apr. 22. 2000, aged 74; survived by his wife, Louise, and 7 children.

McGivern, Bernadette P., Winnipeg; National University of Ireland, 1950; family practice; former anesthetist and staff, Misericordia General Hospital. Died May 2, 2000, aged 74.

McLeod, David L., Scarborough, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1952; pediatrics; FRCPC; former staff, Centenary Hospital; professor, University of Toronto. Died Apr. 26, 2000, aged 78; survived by his wife, Kirsten, and 3 children.

Meng, Maurice, Montreal; McGill University, 1951; FRSH, DABPM; former medical staff, CNR, Air Canada and Lavalin International. Died Apr. 10. 2000, aged 86; survived by his wife, Jean.

Ramsey, Lionel A., Edmonton; University of Alberta, 1985; ATLS, ACLS; former staff, Rocky Medical Clinic. Died in a skiing accident Apr. 23, 2000, aged 38; survived by his wife, Kim. ”He loved the mountains and the outdoors,” his obituary stated. ”He had a passion for climbing, skiing and mountaineering.”

Ramsey, R. Bruce, Dorval, Que.; McGill University, 1949; ophthalmology; DABOphth, FRCSC; RCN, WW II and Korean conflict; former associate ophthalmologist and director, Ocular Plastic Clinic, and senior ophthalmologist, Montreal General Hospital; attending ophthalmologist, Montreal Children‚s Hospital; associate professor, McGill University. Died of a heart attack while skiing Mar. 31, 2000, aged 75; survived by his wife, Norah, and 3 children. His obituary stated: ”Gifted with outstanding manual dexterity which he put to good use in his profession and hobbies, he never lost his clinical zeal, empathy for patients and dedication to improving surgical techniques and instrument innovation.”

Rogers, Donald B., Burlington, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1950; diagnostic radiology; FRCPC; RCAF, WW II; former staff, Department of Radiology, St. Joseph‚s Hospital; lecturer, McMaster University. Died Apr. 10, 2000, aged 79; survived by his wife, Josephine, and 3 children.

Shore, Melvin, Montreal; McGill University, 1970; obstetrics/gynecology; FRCSC; former staff, Sir Mortimer B. Davis‐Jewish General Hospital. Died of cancer Apr. 8, 2000, aged 54; survived by his wife, Bonnie, and 2 sons.

Thompson, William J., Calgary; University of Manitoba, 1942; orthopedic surgery; FRCSC; RCNVR, RN, WW II; former chief, Orthopedic Surgery Services, Shaughnessy Hospital; attending staff, Vancouver General Hospital; associate clinical professor (surgery), University of British Columbia. Died Apr. 26, 2000, aged 84; survived by his daughter Margot and brother Dr. Gordon. His brother writes: ”Bill was an excellent teacher to his UBC students and a superb mentor to his orthopedic and surgical trainees.”
