In my view it is important to put physician workforce in Canada in an international context.
According to world Bank Data, Canada has 2.4 physicians per 1000, US has 2.6. Other examples are Australia 4.1, France 3.3, and Germany 4.4/1000.
Another major factor has been the delay in graduation of entire annual cohorts. First it was the requirement for a degree before admission instead of the 2 year premed course. Then the need for a 2nd year residency in family practice with a third year now being implemented.
