Barr, John W.B., Ottawa; Queen's University, 1940. Died Apr. 25, 2007, aged 90. “Major General Barr was a regimental medical officer for the Canadian Armed Forces Medical Service during World War II. He continued in the Canadian Forces Medical Group, rising to the rank of Major General as surgeon general of the Armed Forces. On retirement he became Registrar of the Medical Council of Canada and Colonel Commandant of the Canadian Forces Medical Service.”

McBirnie, John Edward, Toronto; University of Toronto, 1947, general surgery. Died Apr. 7, 2007, aged 84. “Dr. McBirnie was at the helm of the surgical team at Port Colborne Hospital for 35 years. When he retired from Port Colborne Hospital in 1990 and moved to Toronto, he assisted with surgeries at the Toronto Central and Wellesley Hospitals for 9 years. He is survived by his wife, Pat.”

Waugh, Edward Harrison (Harry), Sarnia, Ont.; University of Manitoba, 1951, general surgery. Died Apr. 18, 2007, aged 86. “Dr. Waugh was a navigator with the Royal Canadian Air Force and then a family physician in Lynn Lake, Man., and Prescott, Ont. He was a resident in general surgery at McGill, Sarnia general surgeon and occupational physician, barbecue chef extraordinaire and a major contributor to his community. Predeceased by his brothers Champion and Douglas, he is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his son, Craig (Linda), his daughters, Cathy, Tannis and Sandra (Charlie), and his brother Peter.”
