A new method of analysis enabled a better understanding of clinical practice guideline development processes
2006, Journal of Clinical EpidemiologyCitation Excerpt :Our analyses show that the main concern of CPG development groups is, unsurprisingly, the discussion of evidence and its relations to clinical practice. Previous work [15] has suggested a wider concern about the systematization of knowledge in relation to the art of medicine. This study shows how a group of thoughtful clinicians and consumers struggled with the balance of science and art; this study demonstrates that guideline development is not a process solely devoted to the slavish consideration of published scientific evidence.
