Adverse drug reactions in tuberculosis and management
2019, Indian Journal of TuberculosisPrevalence of adverse drug reaction with first-line drugs among patients treated for pulmonary tuberculosis
2015, Clinical Epidemiology and Global HealthCitation Excerpt :Familial occurrence of drug-induced toxicity has also been reported.75 In a large Indian study with short course chemotherapy regimes in the treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, 16.1% of the patients given Streptomycin developed vertigo which was severe in 5% cases.76 In 10% of these patients, the drug had to be stopped.
Corticosteroids for prevention of mortality in people with tuberculosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis
2013, The Lancet Infectious DiseasesCitation Excerpt :The corresponding author had full access to all the data in the study and had final responsibility for the decision to submit for publication. We identified 41 trials (comprising 3560 patients who received steroids and 2982 patients in control groups) that met our inclusion criteria, of which 18 were in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis,23–41 nine were in patients with meningitis,42–51 seven were in patients with pleurisy,52–58 six were in patients with pericarditis,59–64 and one was in patients with peritonitis65 (table; figure 1). Most of the studies (23) were reported before 1990, and therefore did not use modern antituberculosis treatment regimens.
Biologics and Infections: Lessons from Tumor Necrosis Factor Blocking Agents
2011, Infectious Disease Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :Two other prospective randomized trials of adjunctive corticosteroids administered at lower doses have observed similar, albeit smaller, effects on the kinetics of sputum culture conversion.91,92 A third found no effect.93 There have been no reports of deleterious effects of corticosteroids on microbiologic outcomes in TB.
