The relationship between social class and national board scores of students in a medical school

Abstract

Social class and average grade in college were studied in relation to the National Board Examination Scores and academic performance in the four year program at one medical school. The study findings indicate the following:

  • 1.

    (1) The social class background and the average grade in college of the study subjects were not related either to scores obtained in the National Board Examinations or to academic performance in the four years at the medical school in which the research was conducted.

  • 2.

    (2) Average grade in college was not related either to academic performance in the four years of medical training or to the scores obtained by the respondents in the National Board Examinations.

Thus, within this restricted sample the findings of this study revealed that social class and average grade in college were not related to the National Board Examination Scores and to academic performance in the 4 year period of a medical school program.
