Characterizing Gulf War Illnesses: Neurally mediated hypotension and postural tachycardia syndrome
2005, American Journal of MedicineCitation Excerpt :Second, those with frequent orthostatic symptoms who have repeatedly triggered a neurally mediated reflex in the past often learn techniques to prevent syncope, such as contracting leg muscles. Studies of the reliability of tilt tests have shown a reduced rate of positive findings on second tests.39,40 If this phenomenon occurred in our sample, it would have had the effect of reducing prevalence rates among those with frequent orthostatic symptoms.
Reproducibility of nitrate-stimulated tilt testing in patients with suspected vasovagal syncope and a healthy control group
2005, American Heart JournalCitation Excerpt :The higher reproducibility of positive test results in our study may be explained by the difference in patient selection and also by the steeper tilt angle. Blanc et al4 investigated the reproducibility of a 60-minute 60° positive tilt test in 13 patients (aged 46 ± 22 years) with syncope. They reported a positive passive tilt result with an interval of 7 days to be reproducible in 62%.
