As someone who has been through burnout, I don't feel this cartoon accurately represents the struggle of many of us. The insinuation that burnout means ignoring your patients and drinking alcohol and passing out at work is a bit offensive. Yes, this CAN and DOES happen to some, and probably this is during the "end stages" of burnout, when it has gone unrecognized for years. MOST of us are silently suffering, and our work is not being so obviously impacted. We are holding it together at work. I wouldn't want people to get the idea that just because our colleagues aren't falling apart at the seams, they aren't burning out. In our profession, we tend to give everything we have to our work, and that is precisely why we are burning out in the first place.
