Burr, Ronald C., Kingston, Ont.; Queen's University, 1932; diagnostic/therapeutic radiology; FRCS(Ed), FACR, FRCPC; RCAMC, WW II; first director, Kingston Regional Cancer Centre; former radiologist, Hotel Dieu Hospital and Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital; senior member, CMA. In 1966 he was named the first professor and first head of the Department of Therapeutic Radiology at Queen's after convincing the university that therapeutic radiology was a unique discipline requiring a separate department; it was the first of its kind in Canada. The Ronald C. Burr Wing was named in his honour at the Kingston General Hospital. Died Mar. 24, 1999, aged 94; survived by one daughter. When he died, friend Margie Bolster called former colleagues to inform them of the death. "People who worked for him loved him very much," she told the Kingston Whig-Standard. "I couldn't bear that, the thought of them picking up the paper [and reading about his death]."

He had in-depth knowledge of the history of local First Nation tribes and could address native patients in their language. Dr. Gibson was also renowned as a storyteller and for his practical jokes. When asked to bring a door prize to one out-of-town medical meeting, he brought a door. Died Apr. 2, 1999, aged 85; survived by his wife, Freda, and 3 children.
