While there is a growing body of evidence encouraging the safe re-opening of schools across a number of countries, there is a growing concern and resistance amongst the public about the safety of children and their role as superspreaders (Willyard, 2021).
The proposal and adoption of a hybrid-learning approach, where class sizes are halved or limited to smaller cohorts has been recommended as safe and feasible (Head et al., 2021). Most critically, this option should be made available in all schools to respect parents and guardian autonomy, circumstances, and sentiments. As fears and tenable possibility of new variant waves continue to exist, this option protects children and school staff, reassures parents and guardians, and provides a legal leeway for reopening schools.
