Excellent article Sam - Perfectly stated.
Agree that the ED mandate is to provide care to people with acute, unexpected and time-sensitive health care needs.
Adequate support from social services, chronic disease services and coordination with all the ED supports (Medicine, Surgery, Peds, DI, etc.) is necessary to ensure that our patients are cared for in the most appropriate environment in a timely manner.
