    En matière de santé publique, il existe actuellement des projets qui prévoient la distribution gratuite d’auxiliaires antitabac afin de promouvoir l’abandon du tabagisme. Y a-t-il suffisamment de fumeurs intéressés à utiliser des auxiliaires antitabac pour que cette mesure exerce un impact substantiel sur la prévalence du tabagisme, en supposant que cette aide soit distribuée gratuitement à tous les fumeurs volontaires? Nous avons réalisé une enquête téléphonique auprès de 825 personnes de 18 ans ou plus qui fumaient quotidiennement; elles ont été sélectionnées au hasard et devaient avoir fumé au moins 10 cigarettes par jour à un moment ou l’autre de leur vie. Globalement, 58,9 % des répondants se sont dits intéressés à utiliser un auxiliaire antitabac s’il était offert gratuitement. Parmi les personnes intéressées, la presque totalité (93,8 %) ont affirmé qu’elles utiliseraient un auxiliaire antitabac pour les aider à écraser pour de bon. On a par contre noté quelques différences quant au degré d’intérêt : les fumeurs qui avaient l’intention de cesser étaient plus intéressés à utiliser des auxiliaires antitabac que ceux qui n’envisageaient que de réduire leur consommation ou n’avaient pas l’intention d’arrêter.
