Died Nov. 3, 2006, aged 83. “Dr. Morin had a distinguished career in psychiatry commencing in the early 1950s at a time when treatment of the mentally ill in community-based general hospitals was slowly becoming recognized. In 1952, the Ottawa General Hospital established the first in-patient psychiatric unit in the city and Dr. Morin became Clinical Director. The unit rapidly expanded in size and scope and was able to serve patients from the Ottawa area and eastern Quebec. For the first time, Ottawa-area patients could remain in their own community. Dr. Morin's notable capacity for the planning and development of new psychiatric programs, together with his skill for teaching, led naturally to his next career move. In 1963, the Royal Ottawa Sanitarium was converted to become a mental health centre, under the direction of the late Dr. Ian Clancy as Director and Dr. Morin as Psychiatrist-in-Chief and Medical Director. This centre became the Royal Ottawa Hospital, where Dr. Morin remained until he left in 1974 to enter full-time private practice, retiring in 1988. He loved classical music and the arts. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Morin.”
