Died May 27, 2006, aged 81. “Survived by Helen, his wife of 53 years, children, Wendy Creech, Jamie and Rob and 7 grandchildren. Gay practiced general surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Montreal for over 30 years. He will be remembered with a smile for his irrepressible sense of humour and fair play, his love of medicine, sports and music and his great compassion for his patients and deep love for his family. Happy memories gratefully accepted at rh.goodall@sympatico.ca.” **Keeler,** William Raymond, Etobicoke, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1944, psychiatry. Died Apr. 19, 2006, aged 86. “His remarkable career spanned half a century. After graduating from the University of Torono, he interned at St. Joseph's Hospital. He became a captain for the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. When discharged, he attended McGill University for postgraduate studies. Renowned child psychiatrist Lauretta Bender invited the young doctor to work with her at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. He went on to become Head of the Child's Psychiatric Hospital at the University of Michigan before returning to Canada for the rest of his life. He had a thriving private practice in downtown Toronto where patients held him in high esteem for his mediculous attention to detail, compassion and remarkable intuition. He loved medicine and cared about his patients. Dr. Keeler possessed an insatiable quest for knowledge. He played piano and composed music. He loved golf. He appreciated art and his passion was books. Dr. Keeler wrote *Discovering the creative brain of Sir Frederick Banting* while in his 80's. Bill Banting, Sir Frederick's only child, and Dr. Keeler became good friends. Dr. Keeler is survived by his wife and daughter.” **Kempff,** Johan (John) Gerard, Peterborough, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1957. Died June 9, 2006, aged 82. “After graduating from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, in 1952, John immigrated to Canada to intern at the Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster, BC, receiving his LMCC in 1953. John interned in radiology at St. Michael's and Toronto General Hospitals from 1954 to 1957 and joined the staff of St. Michael's Hospital in 1957. In 1963, John was appointed Chief Radiologist of the Peterborough Civic Hospital. He resigned in 1983 and continued to work part time until 1996. John served as President of the Peterborough County Medical Association in 1970. In 1993 the Ontario Medical Associaton granted John the Glenn Sawyer Service Award for recognition of service to the profession and community. John is survived by Anna, his loving wife of 48 years, children, Alice and George, and 2 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his oldest son John Jr. (1959–90).” **Kitchen,** Robert Walter, Vancouver; University of Alberta, 1981, psychiatry. Died Apr. 8, 2006, aged 78. “Predeceased by his wife, Celia, survived by children, Rosemary, Donald, Julia (Roger Ward), Nick (Beth), Catriona (Philip Landsky) and 4 adored grandchildren.He gave dedicated service to the people of Carbonear and district for 35 years, 1963–98.
