Fast, Bernhard, Winnipeg; University of Manitoba, 1951, internal medicine. Died Aug. 27, 2006, aged 81.
Kirkwood-Hackett, Thomas James, Campbellford, Ont.; Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, 1953. Died July 28, 2006, aged 85.
La, Dinh, London, Ont.; medical student, University of Western Ontario (class of 2009). Died Aug. 4, 2006, aged 24.
Lambert, Kenton Chickering, Goderich, Ont.; McGill University, 1955, general surgery. Died Sept. 16, 2006, aged 76. “Ken is survived by Libby (nee Taylor), his devoted wife of 56 years and his children, Lesley (Konrad Engel), Taylor (Anne Marie), Nicky, Iain (Karen) and Pamela (Stephen Smalley). Ken was widely admired and respected by colleagues and patients for his compassion, skill and total dedication to his profession. He was a committed environmentalist and outdoorsman who was happiest working on his land at Lalapanzi and going on canoe trips with his friends and family.”
Locke, Howard Allen, New Glasgow, NS; Dalhousie University, 1945. Died May 22, 2006, aged 84.
McLaughlin, Mary Jane, Halifax; Dalhousie University, 2001, anesthesia. Died Sept. 15, 2006, aged 30. “She was the loving daughter of Dr. Joseph McLaughlin and Jill (Stephenson) McLaughlin. She is also survived by sisters, Margot and Lindsay, grandmother, Elizabeth Stephenson, niece, Lauren, many aunts, uncles, extended relatives and friends. While in medical school, she was an active member of the Phi Chi medical fraternity, eventually overseeing chapters of the organization throughout North America. In June of 2006, she passed the Royal College of Physicians exams and was doing a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at the Cleveland Clinic at the time of her death. She was ultimately planning to work at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax doing pediatric anesthesia and ICU. Mary Jane loved her work and was highly regarded by her patients, coworkers and fellow physicians for her knowledge and enthusiasm. She had cultivated a large network of friends over the years and will be truly missed by many.”
Ort, Reginald Ross, Tillsonburg, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1957, general surgery. Died Sept. 18, 2006, aged 78. “Beloved husband of wife, Joan (Cranston), of 50 years, father of Chris (Sheila Menzes), Lisa Rahn (Aaron) of Vancouver and Robert Ort of Guelph. Survived by his sister Margaret Chamberlin and predeceased by his brothers Harry and Gerald.”
Price, Ralph Morton, Port Perry, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1965. Died Sept. 16, 2006, aged 66. “Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Hoare); loved father of Kim Price (Bruce Burgess) of Toronto, Matthew Price of Germany and Taylor Price (Sylvia Biro) of Toronto; loving grandfather of Mackenzie and Madelaine Burgess; dear brother of Kathy (Alvin Murphy) of Alliston, Doug Price (Diane) of Oshawa and Bob Price (Sharon) of Dundalk. Ralph brought a great passion to all aspects of his life — to his family, to the hundreds of patients in his medical practice and to his pursuit of knowledge in many areas. He had a special passion for history and for the art, furnishings and artifacts of early Canada. He also loved contemporary art, in particular the work of amateur artists, some of which he discovered and brought to prominence. He and his wife, Pat, created an important collection of Canadiana that is renowned internationally and has been made available to a wide public in major exhibitions as well as permanent donations to The National Museum of Man.”
Robertson, William John, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1944, pediatrics. Died Aug. 31, 2006, aged 85. “Beloved husband of the late Ruby and fondly remembered by family, friends, and patients as ‚Father, Grandfather, Physician, Farmer, Essayist, Amateur Theologian, Lifelong Student, and Gentleman.' Bill leaves 6 children: John (Linda), Mary Keshen (Richard), Peg Reinwald (John), Arnold, Don (Kathy), and Doug (Lynn). Born in rural Saskatchewan, Bill completed studies at the University of Saskatchewan (BA) and University of Toronto (MD). Following service in the Royal Canadian Medical Corps during World War II, Bill completed paediatric training at the Hospital for Sick Children prior to opening a paediatric practice in Sault Ste. Marie, which spanned 47 years. He died secure in the knowledge that he had fulfilled his life-long goal: ‚… that my life will make a difference.'”
Walker, Thomas Lawrence Boyd, Chatham, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1952, family medicine. Died July 19, 2006, aged 83. “Beloved husband of Ruth (Mitchell) Walker for 56 years; loving father of Rob (Susanne) of Stratford, Christine (Graham Anderson) of Wodonga, Australia and Bill (Kelly) of Toronto; dear brother of Bill Walker of Toronto. Predeceased by his son, Tom (1989) and his sister, Jean Griffen. From 1941 to 1945 he was on active service as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He instructed in Dunnville for 2 years before joining the 418 Squadron RCAF overseas. He was Chief of Staff of St. Joseph's Hospital from 1965 to 1971 and was a board member of the YMCA.”
Zobrist, Markus, Calgary; University of Calgary, 1998. Died Sept. 3, 2006, aged 49.
