Fullerton, Samuel George Burke, Riverport, NS; Dalhousie University, 1952. Died Apr. 10, 2006, aged 86. “He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Artillery. He was predeceased by his first wife, Vera (Brown); his second wife, Ruth (Milne) Meisner; his third wife, Mary Louise (Benham) Burchell; and sister, Helen van Hemert. He is survived by his sons, Chris (Barbara), Bermuda; and Bill (Judy), Rose Bay; his sisters, Muriel Robertson, Truro; and Gwendolyn Mountan, Lornville; as well as stepchildren, Kent Meisner, Jan Michaud, Dale Cox, Andrew Meisner, John Burchell, David Burchell, and Susan Kearns; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.”

MacNeil, Arthur Raymond, Halifax; Dalhousie University, 1963, internal medicine. Died Apr. 6, 2006, aged 67. “He will be sadly missed by his wife, Patricia Walsh; daughters, Robyn Walsh, Fall River, Kelly (Lee) Robinson, England; and his one and only granddaughter, Abigail. He had a distinguished career as an associate professor of medicine at Dalhousie Medical School and served as the Director of the intensive care unit at Victoria General Hospital and Medical Director of the hospital's respiratory technology unit. He was a passionate yachtsman and offshore racer (BORC), never happier than when he was behind the wheel of Dies Irae or Battle Hymn with Patricia by his side. He was a past rear commodore of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron and a past commodore of the Armdale Yacht Club. He was an executive of the Conservative Party of Canada.”

Spitzer, Walter O., Bath, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1962. Died Apr. 27, 2006, aged 69. “He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carmen, his children, Paul, Pamela, Carl, Brenda, Marco, Sonia and Claus, their spouses, 10 cherished grandchildren, his sister Ruth Matisko, her husband Barnard and their children Michael and Ann. Born in Asunción, Paraguay, Feb. 19, 1937, eldest son of Paul Rosenberg and Elsa Spitzer, Baptist missionaries among the Guarani people in Paraguay. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an epidemiologist and educator. He was Associate Professor at McMaster University; Strathcona Professor, Chairman of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Professor Emeritus, McGill University; General Director of the International Christian Medical Society; Clinical Professor of Medicine, Stanford University; Editor of the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology; Member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academics, Washington; National Health Scientist of Canada; author of over 100 books and original articles. Avid flyer, sailor, pianist, brilliant linguist and humourist.”

Died Apr. 10, 2006, aged 73. “Mourning his passing are his wife, Ekaterini; his brother Nicholas, his mother-in-law, Vasso Vassiliadis, his nieces and nephews, Carla and Yorgo Veenhuyzen, and Harris and Stavros Lacovides; his brother and sister-in-law, Hans and Mary Veenhuyzen; his cousins Chris and Stella Lacovides, and a large group of extended family and friends living in Canada and abroad.”
