Bailey, John Davidson, Etobicoke, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1947, pediatrics. Died Aug. 24, 2005, aged 83 “He is survived by his wife, Mary, his children, Dr. Kathryn, Peter, Martha, John and Bob and 6 grandchildren. Dad was a great role model and had a special relationship with his grandchildren sharing his love of music, family, history, science and baseball. We miss him!”

Brereton, William Joseph, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; National University of Ireland, 1955. Died Aug. 22, 2005, aged 74. Predeceased by his loving wife and best friend of 49 years, Joan. Loving father of Sheila Moran (Andrew), Maeve Coccimiglio (Angelo), Anne Bell (Donald) and Siobhan Moran (Peter).

Burtnick, Walter, Sechelt, BC; University of British Columbia, 1957. Died Aug. 5, 2005, aged 77.

Calderisi, Ronald, Moose Factory, Ont.; McGill University, 1973, general surgery. Died July 29, 2005, aged 56.

Chamberlain, George Elliott, Owen Sound, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1965. Died Aug. 21, 2005, aged 64. “Those who knew him would not cry for him, but smile and celebrate his life. Beloved husband of Janice.”

Cohen, Morley, Winnipeg; University of Manitoba, 1948, general surgery. Died Aug. 18, 2005, aged 81.

Crabtree, Trudy Sharon, Calgary; University of Saskatchewan, 1977, anatomical pathology. Died Aug. 23, 2005, aged 53.

Dickout, John Maxwell, Edmonton; University of Alberta, 1943. Died Aug. 8, 2005, aged 88.

Harrison, Donald Christopher, Toronto; University of Toronto, 1950, internal medicine. Died Aug. 15, aged 80.

Homer, Geoffrey Forbes, Cadboro Bay, Sask.; University of Manitoba, 1935. Died Aug. 16, 2005, aged 94. “In 1939, he joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in Victoria, transferred to England and was appointed medical officer for the Canadian Officers' Convalescent Home, where he met his beloved Joan (Fellowes) who he married in 1942. Major Homer partook in the invasion of Normandy, Belgium and Holland. At the end of the war, he pursued postgraduate studies and was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1946 and soon after returned to Victoria to start a practice in general surgery. He was Chief of Surgery at the Veterans' and St. Joseph's Hospitals, President of the Victoria Medical Society, sat on the founding Board of Governors of the University of Victoria and served on its Senate for many years. He was a gentleman with high standards and a kind heart.”

Lavoie, René Georges, Sainte-Foy, Que.; Université Laval, 1951, ophthalmology. Died July 28, 2005, aged 81. “Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Charlotte Mignault, ses quatre enfants Hélène (Stephen Burnett), Jean (Sanin Hodzic), André (Laura Robb) et Danielle (Jack Purdy) ainsi que ses quatre petits-enfants adorés Christophe, Sandrine, Andrew et Laura.”

Lazarchuk, Myron, Kamloops, BC; Universitaet Wien Medizinische Fakultaet Wien, 1947, general surgery. Died Aug. 16, 2005, aged 82. “He is survived by his loving wife, Olga, son Oleh and daughter Marta. Myron studied medicine in the Ukraine and Austria. After graduating in 1947, he came by boat to Canada. After working in Edmonton, Prince Rupert and Vancouver, he moved to Kamloops in 1955 where he continued to practise surgery. He was chief of surgery at Royal Inland Hospital for 15 years.”

Marciniak, Joseph L., Saskatoon; University of Ottawa, 1953. Died Aug. 24, 2005, aged 81. “He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen; his children Louise, Donna, Paul, Eileen and Michael. He gave his life to his family, his patients and his profession.”

Martineau, Raymond Julien, Outremont, Que.; Université Laval, 1972, anesthesia. Died July 29, 2005, aged 55.

Pashby, Thomas Joseph, East York, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1940, ophthalmology. Died Aug. 24, 2005, aged 90. “He was hockey's foremost safety pioneer for the last half-century. He devoted his life to making hockey safer and helmets stronger. He was a Member of the Order of Canada in 1981 and inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.”

Ramsay, Donald William, Calgary; Dalhousie University, 1938, general surgery. Died Aug. 15, 2005, aged 92.

Rybak, Stanley Edward, Kingston, Ont.; Université Laval, 1948. Died Aug. 15, 2005, aged 83. “How he loved to have me read the journal to him for 23 1/2 years. I will miss it. Many thanks for all the hours of pleasure.”

Torrie, Allan MacDonald, Keewatin, Ont.; University of Manitoba, 1951, family medicine. Died Aug. 20, 2005, aged 82. “Enlisting in the Navy in 1941, he met and married Greta, the love of his life, in Halifax during the war. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this past June. His committment to the community is evident through his decades of volunteer work at the provincial, regional and local levels.”

Tsianou, Afrodite, Thunder Bay, Ont.; McMaster University, 1992, internal medicine. Died Aug. 10, 2005, aged 52.

Yarrey, Omelian Boris, York, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1949. Died Aug. 21, 2005, aged 83.
