Boskovic, Aleksandar D., Montréal; University of Belgrade (Yugoslavia), 1952; nuclear medicine; ABNM; former chief, Department of Nuclear Medicine, Sacre-Coeur Hospital; teaching staff, University of Montreal. Died Apr. 4, 2004, aged 81.

Cadman, Thomas A., Sherbrooke, Que.; McGill University, 1941; ophthalmology; FRCSC. Died Apr. 8, 2004, aged 94.

Callaghan, John C., Bala, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1946; thoracic surgery; FACS, FACC, FRCSC; former chief, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, University of Alberta Hospital; officer of the Order of Canada, 1985; recipient, Alberta Order of Excellence, 1986 and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gold Medal, 2002. Died Apr. 6, 2004, aged 80; survived by his wife, Gracey, and 6 children. “He was a pioneer in cardiovascular surgery. He co-developed the cardiac pacemaker and performed the first open-heart surgery in Canada and the first complete repair of the blue baby malformation.”

Hill, Christina E., Ottawa; University of Toronto, 1969; urology; FRCSC; former staff and chief of staff, Grace General Hospital; interim chief executive officer, Ottawa Hospital; president, Academy of Medicine of Ottawa and Federation of Medical Women of Canada; designated aviation medical examiner, Transport Canada. Died June 4, 2004, aged 59; survived by her husband, Jim, and 2 children. “She was the first female urologist in Canada.”

Kester, Harold A., Vancouver; University of Western Ontario, 1940; anesthesia; FRCPC; former staff, Vancouver General Hospital; clinical instructor, University of British Columbia. Died Apr. 5, 2004, aged 89.

MacEwan, William R., Surrey, BC; University of Alberta, 1945; obstet rics/ gynecology; DObstRCOG, FRCSC; former chief of staff, Grace Hospital; clinical assistant professor, University of British Columbia. Died Apr. 6, 2004, aged 83.

Moore, John B., Stratford, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1943; MCFP; RCN, WW II; former coroner. Died Apr. 7, 2004, aged 85; survived by his wife, Patricia, and 5 children. “He practiced family medicine in Mitchell (1947–63) and Stratford, Ont. (1963–89).”

Murray, Alastair A., Vancouver; University of Edinburgh (Scotland), 1936; surgery; FRCS(Ed.), FRCSC; RAMC, WW II; former staff, Vancouver General, St. Paul's and Mount St. Joseph's hospitals; founding member and president, Vancouver Medico-Legal Society. Died May 29, 2004, aged 90; survived by his son, Allan.

Richards, Burke A., Burlington, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1953; internal medicine; FRCPC; former staff Joseph Brant Memorial and Milton District hospitals. Died Apr. 14, 2004, aged 75; survived by his wife, Anne, and 4 children.

Snell, Bernard, Edmonton; University of Glasgow (Scotland), 1943; DPH, MRCP(Ed.), FRCP(Ed.), FACHA; former president, University of Alberta Hospitals; clinical professor, Department of Health Services Administration, University of Alberta; recipient Order of Canada, Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal and Alberta Order of Excellence. Died Apr. 13, 2004, aged 84; survived by his wife, Edna, and 2 children. “He was instrumental in the building of the Walter Mackenzie Health Science Centre, a world leader in medical care and health scholarship.”
