Died Oct. 20, 2003. “He developed the department of pathology at Prince George Regional Hospital. He was an outdoorsman, an avid fisherman and cross-country skier.”

His daughter Nancy said: “He often traveled by dog sled to deliver babies and care for others in the logging community. So many life lessons were delivered and in a funny way.”

Raschka, Laszlo (Leslie) B., North York, Ont.; University of Budapest (Hungary), 1949; psychiatry; MRCPsy., FAPA, FRCPC; former chief, adult services, Clarke Institute of Psychiatry; associate professor, University of Toronto. Died Sept 29, 2003, aged 78.

Richards, Elizabeth M., Vancouver; University of London (England), 1939; MRCS; RAMC, WW II; former staff, Department of Family Medicine, University Hospital; medical director, Student Health Clinic, University of Saskatchewan. Died Sept. 8, 2003, aged 88; survived by her husband, Dr. Guy, and 3 sons. “She was among the first female family doctors in the Canadian prairies. She and her husband were part of the small group of doctors who publicly supported medicare and continued to practise throughout the doctors' strike.”

Smith, Edward W., Saskatoon; University of Alberta, 1955; ophthalmology; FRCSC; former staff, St. Paul's Hospital. Died of Parkinson's Disease Sept. 23, 2003, aged 75; survived by his wife, Marion, and 4 children.

Yamamoto, Y. Lucas, Pierrefonds, Que.; Hokkaido University (Japan), 1952; nuclear medicine; ABNM, former director, Neuro-Isotope Laboratory and associate director, Neurosurgery Research Laboratory, Montreal Neurological Institute; professor, McGill University. Died Sept. 18, 2003, aged 75; survived by his wife, Jeanine, and 3 children. “He contributed to the Montréal Japanese community providing care and comfort through a small general practice focusing on the elderly and new arrivals to Canada.”
