Chan, Pang-Ling, Hong Kong; McGill University, 1962; obstetrics/gynecology; MRCOG, FRCSC; former staff, Sunnybrook Medical Centre and Toronto Bayview Regional Cancer Centre; assistant professor, University of Toronto. Died Jan. 2, 2004, aged 67; survived by his wife, Angeline, and 2 sons.

Durost, Henry B., Toronto; McGill University, 1950; psychiatry; MRCPsy, FRCPC; former executive director, Douglas Hospital; medical director, Queen Street Mental Health Centre; clinical director, Clarke Institute of Psychiatry; professor emeritus, University of Toronto. Died Jan. 6, 2004, aged 78. “He visited most of the psychiatric facilities across Canada as a surveyor for the Canadian Council on Hospital Accreditation.”

Elder, Henry W., Burlington, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1950; internal medicine; FRCPC; pilot, RCAF, WW II, and spent 6 months as prisoner of war after his Halifax bomber was shot down; former staff, Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. Died due to pulmonary fibrosis Dec. 25, 2003, aged 79; survived by his wife, Margaret, and 2 sons.

Fleming, Kelvin O., Vancouver; McGill University, 1945; ophthalmology; DABO, FRCPC, FRCSC; RCAF, WW II; former staff, Vancouver General Hospital; clinical assistant professor, ophthalmologic pathology, University of British Columbia. Died Feb. 14, 2004, aged 83; survived by his wife, Eloise, and 6 children. “His family remembers him best skiing and hiking with his troop of children.” His son, Dr. Ivor Fleming, commented: “He nearly died with gangrene during the Depression. At the end of his residency he married the charge nurse for his eye ward, and later he helped start the ophthalmology program at UBC. He retired from UBC at the 65th mark but carried on in Vernon, where he saw a new beginning. He enjoyed the broader practice in Vernon but was saddened by the constant loss of his colleagues and friends through death and disease.”

Grant, W. Wallace, Victoria; University of Manitoba, 1944; psychiatry; FRCPC; former staff and director, Child Development Clinic, Winnipeg Children's Hospital; staff, Royal Jubilee Hospital; visiting staff, Queen Alexandra Hospital for Children and Pearkes Centre for Children; associate professor, University of Manitoba; recipient, Distinguished Alumni Award, University of Manitoba. Died Dec. 14, 2003, aged 87; survived by his wife, Rae, and 6 children.

Hagerman, E. Stanley, St. Thomas, Ont.; Queen's University, 1953; internal medicine; FRCPC; former consulting staff, St. Thomas–Elgin General Hospital. Died Dec. 23, 2003, aged 73; survived by his wife, Sybil, and 4 children.

Hartwick, R. Warren, Toronto; University of Toronto, 1981; anatomical pathology; FRCPC; former head, surgical pathology, Mount Sinai Hospital; consultant, MDS Laboratories; assistant professor, University of Toronto. Died Jan. 1, 2004, aged 48; survived by his wife, Elizabeth. “He was always fully engaged, whether competing in triathlons, exploring bike and hiking trails, investigating wines or relishing family times as an eager game player and champion dock jumper.”

Kewish, Kenneth C., Calgary; University of Liverpool (England), 1957; MRCS(Eng.), LRCP(Lond.), DPH (Lond.); former staff, Calgary General and Grace hospitals; medical officer, Air Canada and Canadian Airlines International; occupational health physician, Northern Telecom Ltd.; assistant medical adviser, City of Calgary. Died Jan. 2, 2004, aged 73.

Lloyd, H. Alun, Edmonton; University of Alberta, 1943; FCFP. Died Jan. 6, 2004, aged 89.

Perreault, Jean-Guy, Saint-Bruno (Qué.); Université de Montréal, 1955; radiothérapie diagnostique; ancien membre du personnel de l'Hôpital Charles LeMoyne. Décédé le 27 décembre 2003, à l'âge de 74 ans.

Saunders, Jack A., Collingwood, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1960; MCFP; former courtesy staff, York Central Hospital; director, health services, and secretary, OMA. Died Jan. 4, 2004, aged 77; survived by his wife, Doris, 3 children and 2 stepchildren.

Stewart, Neil R., Victoria; University of Edinburgh (Scotland), 1941; internal medicine; MRCP(Ed.), FRCPC; former staff and director, geriatrics, St. Joseph's Hospital; consulting staff, Victoria General Hospital and Victoria Cancer Clinic. Died Jan. 8, 2004, aged 86.

Watson, A.G. (Sandy), Rockcliffe, Ont.; University of St. Andrews (Scotland), 1944; ophthalmology; FACS, FRCSC; RCAF, WW II; former chief, Department of Ophthalmology, Ottawa General Hospital; consultant, Ottawa Civic Hospital and Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario; professor emeritus and chair, Department of Ophthalmology, University of Ottawa; Order of Canada, 1987; senior member, CMA. Died Dec. 28, 2003, aged 85; survived by his wife, Patricia, and 2 sons. “He was manager of the RCAF Flyers hockey team, the Olympic champions in 1948.”

Weston, R. Leonard, North York, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1950; anesthesia; former staff, Toronto Western Hospital; clinical teacher, University of Toronto. Died Dec. 25, 2003, aged 82.
