Died Dec. 14, 2002, aged 81; survived by his wife, Madeline, and 4 children. Son Dr. Gordon Cram stated: “His love of life was reflected in the putts missed, the fish that got away, wonderful gardens, his many paintings and his endless dedication to children of all ages.”

Died Dec. 26, 2002, aged 86; survived by his wife, Nancy, and 2 daughters. Nephew Dr. Gordon Cram observed: “His benevolent work in Malawi was recognized with Rotary International's Distinguished Service Award.”

Macdonald, E. Fraser, Yarmouth, NS; Dalhousie University, 1962; attending staff, Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Died Dec. 8, 2002, aged 66; survived by his wife, Audrey, 3 children and 3 stepchildren. Colleague James Goodwin commented: “For many years he gave loving care to a collection of some 200 birds, including 30 wonderfully colourful parrots, parakeets, cockatoos and macaws. He had one particular pet peeve. He always maintained passionately (and correctly) that the Aesculapian or medical caduceus was a staff entwined by 1 snake and not by 2, as it is usually depicted.”

Revell, Daniel, Chilliwack, BC; University of Alberta, 1932; RCAMC, WW II; first resident in anesthesia at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto; first resident director of anesthesiology, Children's Hospital, Winnipeg; chief anesthetist, St. Joseph's Hospital (Victoria General Hospital); inventor of the Revell Circulator. Died Sept. 12, 2002, aged 97. Colleague Paul Gareau commented: “He and his fellows were of the order of trainees who donated blood to pay their rent. In 1934 he spent 4 years in the Red Lake district when there were no roads and travel was accomplished by water in the summer and snowshoes and dogs in the winter.” In 1998 the ASA Newsletter reported: “An innovative Canadian, Dr. Daniel Revell, adapted automobile windshield fans/wiper motors to eliminate under-mask dead space, which contributed to rapid, deep ventilations in spontaneously breathing children under general anesthesia.”
