Bates, Robert P., Jiddah, Saudi Arabia; University of Toronto, 1968; pediatrics; FRCPC; former chief and staff, Department of Pediatrics, Credit Valley Hospital; director and staff, Child Abuse Program, Hospital for Sick Children; staff, Mississauga Hospital; chair, Ontario Centre for Prevention of Child Abuse; associate professor, University of Toronto. Died Mar. 15, 2002, aged 58; survived by his wife, Judith, and 3 children. “He was recipient of the Vanier Award as one of the 5 most outstanding young Canadians of 1978.”

Cyr, Joseph C., Saint-André (N.B.); Université Laval, 1950; omnipraticien. Décédé le 31 mars 2002, à l'âge de 79 ans; laisse son épouse Patricia Dubé, et onze enfants.

Demers, Percy T., Windsor, Ont.; University of Ottawa, 1955; internal medicine; FRCPC; former chief, Department of Medicine, Hotel Dieu of St. Joseph. Died Apr. 9, 2002, aged 73; survived by his wife, Patricia.

Eaid, Charles R., Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; Queen's University, 1943; family medicine; CCFP, FCFP; former consultant, family medicine, Sault Ste. Marie General; chief of staff, Plummer Memorial Hospital; medical director, F.J. Davey Home; coroner, District of Algoma; president, Sault Ste. Marie Medical Society; charter president, Algoma West Academy of Medicine. Died Apr. 8, 2002, aged 82; survived by his wife, Mildred, and 1 daughter. “He was one of the first Canadian physicians certified in family medicine.”

Fast, Isaac M., Vancouver; University of Manitoba, 1951; Died of cancer Apr. 8, 2002, aged 83; survived by his wife, Phyllis, and 5 children.

Fraser, Robert G., Birmingham, Ala.; University of Manitoba, 1945; diagnostic radiology; former chair, Department of Radiology, and honorary doctor of science, McGill University; gold medallist, Radiology Society of North America; president, Canadian Association of Radiologists. Died Apr. 12, 2002, aged 80; survived by his wife, Joanne, 4 children and 3 stepchildren. “He was happiest gazing out at the countryside with a drink in hand, a pipe in his mouth and friends and family by his side.”

Godefroy, Hugh C., Myrtle Beach, SC; McGill University, 1950; RCAF, WW II; former physician, Hudson, Que. Died Apr. 3, 2002, aged 82; survived by his wife, Hope, and 5 children. “He was one of the highest decorated Canadian aces in World War II, earning the Distinguished Service Order and Distinguished Flying Cross and Bar. In 1943 he assumed command of RAF ace Johnnie Johnson's legendary 127 Fighter Wing.”

Harris, Edward R., Burlington, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1930; public health; FRCPC. Died Mar. 31, 2002, aged 97; survived by 4 sons.

Hogg, Georgina R., Winnipeg; University of Manitoba, 1945; general pathology; FRCPC; former senior pathologist and director, surgical pathology, Winnipeg General Hospital/Health Science Centre; associate professor and professor emeritus, University of Manitoba; senior member, CMA. Died Apr. 21, 2002, aged 85; survived by her brother, Allan. “She earned a national reputation as a consultant in surgical pathology and established the Georgina Hogg Endowment Fund in 2001 at the University of Manitoba Libraries to provide medical books in perpetuity at the Neil John Maclean Health Sciences Library.”

Hughes, Robert A., Houston, Tex.; University of Western Ontario, 1948; neurosurgery; FRCSC; former chief of neurosurgery, St. Joseph's Hospital; staff, Hamilton General Hospital; clinical instructor, McMaster University. Died Apr. 15, 2002, aged 76; survived by his wife, Lois, and 4 children.

Lin, David T., Mississauga, Ont.; McGill University, 1940; general surgery; FACS; former senior surgeon, Royal Victoria Hospital; associate professor, McGill University; president and board chair, Montreal Chinese Hospital. Died Apr. 5, 2002, aged 86; survived by his wife, Florence.

Paquet, Edmond, Sainte-Foy (Qué.); Université Laval, 1950; médecine interne; FCCP, FRCRC; ancien chef du département de médecine interne au Centre hospitalier Chauveau. Décédé le 3 avril 2002, à l'âge de 76 ans; laisse son épouse Thérèse Brousseau, et un enfant.
