MacDonald, William K., New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; McGill University, 1944; family medicine; CCFP; RCAMC, WW II; former associate professor, McGill University; director of training, Department of Family Medicine, Montreal General Hospital. Died Feb. 25, 2002, aged 87; survived by his wife, Edith, and 5 children.

McCulloch, John A., Akron, Ohio; University of Toronto, 1963; orthopedic surgery; FRCSC; former staff, St. Michael's Hospital; teaching staff and researcher, Department of Anatomy, University of Toronto. Died Mar 14, 2002, aged 63; survived by his wife, Barbara, and 2 children. “He received many awards for his work, beginning in 1975 with Sweden's Volvo Award for Spine Research.”

Nonamaker, E. Paul, New Germany, NS; Dalhousie University, 1942; thoracic surgery; FRCSC; former chief, general surgical services, Victoria General Hospital; associate professor, Dalhousie University. Died Aug. 12, 2001, aged 85; survived by his wife.

Oestreicher, Donald L., Chatham, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1943; internal medicine; FACP, FRCPC; former chief, medicine, Chatham General Hospital. Died Feb. 26, 2002, aged 81.

Paul, M. Marvin, Toronto; University of Toronto, 1957; MCFP; former staff, Mount Sinai Hospital. Died Nov. 11, 2001, aged 70.

Savory, M. Frances, Riondel, BC; St. Andrew's (Scotland), 1970. Died in a car accident Feb. 21, 2002, aged 56; survived by her late husband's 3 children. Her sister, Fiona, told the BC Medical Journal: “Every year she arranged for a gift for each child in Riondel, which was delivered by Father Christmas in a sleigh. Her family hope to donate her medical equipment, supplies and office furniture to a local organization to encourage the survival of the Riondel Medical Centre.”

Smith, Peter C., Navan, Ont.; University of Ottawa, 1961; MCFP; former staff, Orleans Medico-Dental Centre. Died Mar. 12, 2002, aged 69; survived by his wife, Susan, and 5 children. “He was a dedicated family physician in Barry's Bay, Ont., and Orleans, Ont., for more than 37 years.”

Snow, James T., Windsor, Ont.; Dalhousie University, 1957; RCNVR, RCNR. Died Feb. 13, 2002, aged 77. Audrey Johnston, his receptionist for 29 years, told the Halifax Chronicle-Herald: “In the early years he never took appointments, so when the office doors opened there would often be a long line of people waiting. He'd see them all — he wouldn't even stop to eat.”

Squire, Donald A., Burlington, Ont.; University of Bristol (England), 1940; psychiatry; RAMC, WW II; DPsy, FRCPC; former staff, Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital; provincial medical director, Red Cross Transfusion Service, Hamilton. Died Mar. 12, 2002, aged 88; survived by his wife, Lois, and 2 children.

Stevens, William B., Galiano, BC; Queen's University, 1951; gunnery officer, RCN (HMCS Midland), WW II; former staff, Burnaby General Hospital. Died Mar. 9, 2002, aged 78; survived by his wife, Jean, and 5 children. “He spent endless hours in his little boat, trolling back and forth, always optimistic that the next pass would see a fish strike.”
