Atin, Harvey L., Toronto; University of Toronto, 1953; internal medicine; FACG, FRCPC; former staff, Doctors Hospital. Died Dec. 15, 2001, aged 72; survived by his wife.

Bain, Harry W., Callander, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1944; pediatrics; FRCPC; former physician-in-chief and staff, Hospital for Sick Children; professor and chair, Department of Pediatrics, University of Toronto; officer, Order of Canada; senior member, CMA. Died Dec. 21, 2001, aged 80; survived by his wife, Barbara, and 5 children. He received the CMA's F.N.G. Starr Award in 1998 for his humanitarianism and his work helping Canada's northern communities. It is the highest honour the CMA can grant a physician. “Husband, father, doctor, fisherman — a good man.”

Barwell-Clarke, Ivor F., New Westminster, BC; National School of Medicine (Wales), 1944; plastic surgery; FRCS(Eng.), FRCSC; former staff, Royal Columbia, St. Mary's and Surrey Memorial hospitals. Died Dec. 13, 2001, aged 80.

Beattie, Mary E., Regina; Queen's University (Ireland), 1963; psychiatry; FRCPC; former senior psychiatrist, Moose Jaw Union Hospital; consultant, Providence and St. Joseph's hospitals. Died Dec. 12, 2001, aged 61.

Colborne, Robert E., Valleyfield, PEI; Dalhousie University, 1971; former chief of staff, King's County Memorial Hospital; president, Medical Society of PEI. Died of a heart attack Jan. 31, 2002, aged 55; survived by his wife, Pam, and 3 children. “He epitomized what it is to be a rural family doctor in PEI.”

Fraser, John, West Vancouver; University of London (England), 1950; diagnostic radiology; MRCP(Lond.), DMRD(Eng.); former radiologist, St. Paul's Hospital. Died July 13, 2001, aged 74; survived by his wife.

Garson, J. Malcolm, Charlottetown; University of London (England), 1957; former medical consultant, Medical Services Plan of BC. Died Dec. 14, 2001, aged 70; survived by his wife.

Hamilton, Charles M., Orillia, Ont.; University of Alberta, 1953; physical medicine and rehabilitation; FACP, FRCPC; RCN, WW II; former director, Regional Rehabilitation Centre and chief, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Windsor Western Hospital Centre. Died Dec. 25, 2001, aged 80; survived by his wife, Patricia, and 3 sons. “A talented musician and performer, he also loved boating.”

Howden, Robert L. (Lorrie), Winnipeg; University of Manitoba, 1937; anesthesia; former consulting staff, St. Boniface General Hospital. Died Dec. 14, 2001, aged 90; survived by his wife, Irene, 2 sons and 1 stepdaughter. “He was proud and delighted to have delivered over 3000 babies during his career.”

Jamison, C. Arnold, Richmond, BC; University of Alberta, 1942; diagnostic radiology; FRCPC. Died Dec. 16, 2001, aged 83.

Martin, Robert H., Halifax; Dalhousie University, 1966; ABNM; former staff, Division of Nuclear Medicine, Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre–Victoria Site, Victoria General and Camp Hill hospitals; assistant professor, Dalhousie University. Died Nov. 19, 2001, aged 64.

Pickard, Harold A. (Joe), London, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1947; internal medicine; FRCPC; former president, medical staff and Medical Advisory Committee, and consultant, Victoria Hospital; founding member, Cardiology Unit, Victoria Hospital; medical consultant, London Life Insurance Company; life member, London Health Sciences Centre and London Academy of Medicine; professor emeritus, University of Western Ontario. Died Dec. 15, 2001, aged 80; survived by his wife, Pearl, and 2 sons. “He will be terribly missed by his dear little schnauzer, Katie.”

Pickersgill, Jane, Gander, Nfld.; Queen's University, 1965; DPH; former regional medical health officer, Central Regional Community Health Board and Central Newfoundland Health Unit; staff, Department of Health, Newfoundland and Labrador. Died Dec. 24, 2001, aged 60.

Poirier, Roger, Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu (Qué.); Université de Montréal, 1943; ancien membre du personnel de l'Hôpital St-Jean. Décédé le 8 décembre 2001, à l'âge de 83 ans.

Prohaska, Gertrude N., Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Que.; Heidelberg University (Germany), 1953. Died July 15, 2001, aged 77.

Rogers, Arnold G., Winnipeg; University of Manitoba, 1950; internal medicine; FRCPC; former director, intern education, head, Department of Medicine, president, medical staff, and staff, Misericordia General Hospital; assistant professor, University of Manitoba; established undergraduate scholarships at both Winnipeg universities. Died Dec. 12, 2001, aged 76. “He received gold medals for academic achievement despite a chronic illness acquired in childhood which remained a factor throughout his life.”
