Brain death: physiologic definitions

Abstract

Brain death describes the clinical state of totally absent central nervous system function in a hemodynamically stable, normothermic, nonintoxicated patient, which is followed inevitably by cardiovascular collapse. This article outlines the evolution of the concept of brain death and its current definition and legal status.
