Applying the 2011 Canadian guidelines for breast cancer screening in practice
2012, CMAJ. Canadian Medical Association JournalCitation Excerpt :However, opportunistic screening with a clinical breast examination in the context of a general physical examination might allow a cancer to be diagnosed earlier, thereby reducing treatment morbidity. In addition, such an examination would be an opportunity for the physician to reinforce breast awareness, and for the patient to report symptoms that she might otherwise have been reluctant to mention.17 For these reasons, we suggest that physical examination of the breasts be included when women undergo a thorough physical examination as part of their periodic health examination or baseline antenatal examination.
