Type 2 myocardial infarction due to supply–demand mismatch
2017, Trends in Cardiovascular MedicineCitation Excerpt :Interestingly, frequency of postoperative T2MI was higher in those without a history of coronary intervention compared with those with a history of coronary intervention [7/24 (29%) vs. 3/7 (18%)] [15]. Despite a suggestion of increased frequency of plaque disruption in these postsurgical data, moderate-to-severe ischemia on preoperative thallium scanning is associated with low-level postoperative troponin release and ischemic electrocardiographic changes [16,17]. These data suggest that the perioperative period and its associated hemodynamic perturbations lead to supply/demand mismatch and type 2 MI.
