Risk factors for a false negative Ortolani and Barlow examination in developmental dysplasia of the hip
2023, Orthopaedics and Traumatology: Surgery and ResearchBiomechanical evaluation of different abduction splints for the treatment of congenital hip dysplasia
2012, Clinical BiomechanicsCitation Excerpt :Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), formerly known as congenital dislocation of the hip, includes hip disorders that can be unstable clinically with acetabular misdevelopment with or without femoral head decentering. The long-term morbidity of DDH is unclear, but it is associated with complications such as chronic pain and early osteoarthritis, gait abnormalities, and leg length discrepancy (Burger et al., 1990). It is well-known that prompt recognition and appropriate treatment reduce the risk of late morbidity of the hip (Burger et al., 1993).
ACR Appropriateness Criteria® on Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip-Child
2009, Journal of the American College of RadiologyCitation Excerpt :Some advocate early treatment for every patient with instability [38]. Others prefer clinical observation [39] because a significant number of these patients (80%) progress spontaneously to clinically normal status [40]. Potential adverse health effects associated with radiation exposure are an important factor to consider when selecting the appropriate imaging procedure.
