Early studies of maternal prenatal allergen diet restriction (cow's milk, egg, and peanuts) did not support a protective effect in the development of AD when attempted in high-risk infants.12-16 Previous American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) publications had suggested avoiding peanuts in the maternal diet17; however, a more recent study showed that there was no association between maternal peanut consumption and childhood peanut allergy.18
