Association of marital status with the incidence of suicide: A population-based Cohort Study in Japan (Miyagi cohort study)
2013, Journal of Affective DisordersCitation Excerpt :Secondly, the presence of a social network is a significant factor related to suicide risk, and the quality and strength of such networks may differ according to marital status. People who are married may be more integrated into a supportive social network than those who are not, and therefore they may not tend to live in isolation (Veerrers, 1973). Our present study demonstrated a significantly increased risk of suicide death among men who were widowed or divorced, whereas women did not show such tendency.
