Died of prostate cancer Apr. 7, 2003, aged 72. Survived by his wife, Mimi, and a son. Dr. David Naylor, the dean of medicine, told the U of T Bulletin: “He was a legendary figure in this faculty and in academic medicine more generally. He will be remembered not only for his myriad administrative and organizational contributions but as someone who exemplified the triple-threat academic physician: superb clinician, demanding but inspiring teacher, and outstanding researcher.”

He transformed the CPS from a traditional professional association into a well-respected, important voice for children's health policy on the national scene.”
