**Bismanis**, Jekabs E., Vancouver; Riga University (Latvia), 1935; medical microbiology; FRCPC; former associate professor, University of British Columbia. Died Aug. 15, 2003, aged 91.

**Bouchard**, Gaëtan, Chicoutimi (Qué.); Université Laval, 1977; ancien membre du personnel du Complexe hospitalier de la Sagamie et de l'Hôpital de Chicoutimi; médecin, en médecine industrielle du Saguenay. Décédé le 31 août 2003, à l'âge de 49 ans.

**Cockburn**, Douglas G., London, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1964; former staff, family practice, London Health Sciences Centre, Victoria Campus Site, and St. Joseph's Health Centre. Died Sept. 5, 2003, aged 64; survived by his wife, Barbara, and 4 children. 

**Crimp**, Leonard H., Abbotsford, BC; University of Toronto, 1946; urology; FRCSC; former staff, Moose Jaw Union and Providence hospitals. Died Oct. 5, 2003, aged 83; survived by his wife, Eileen, and 4 children. 

**Dewar**, L. George, O'Leary, PEI; Dalhousie University, 1943; FCFP; former associate staff, Community Hospital; courtesy staff, Western Hospital; Order of Canada; senior member, CMA. Died Nov. 19, 2003, aged 88; survived by his wife, Jean, and 2 children. “He was a Conservative MLA for 23 years, serving as minister of education, provincial secretary and leader of the Opposition. He continued to see patients until a few weeks before his death. Former premier Pat Binns said: “It is hard to think of West Prince and O'Leary without thinking of Dewar and the role he has played.”

**El-Maragh**i, Nabil R., Barrie, Ont.; Cairo University (Egypt), 1959; anatomical pathology; MRCP, DCMT, FRCPC; former staff physician, Royal Victoria Hospital. Died Sept. 10, 2003, aged 66. 

**Gallie**, Hugh R., Calgary; University of Toronto, 1944; general surgery; FACS, FRCSC; former surgeon, Calgary General, Rockyview and Col. Belcher hospitals; courtesy staff, Holy Cross Hospital; senior member, CMA. Died Aug. 22, 2003, aged 82. 

**Gillies**, John D., Toronto; University of Toronto, 1944; obstetrics/gynecology; FRCSC, FACOG; medical officer, RCNVR, WW II; former teaching staff, Toronto General Hospital. Died of cancer Sept. 8, 2003, aged 83; survived by his wife, Mary, and 3 children. “He retained the ability to recite whole passages of classic and English literature.”

**Harvey**, Gail M., Richmond, BC; University of Bristol (England), 1972; DRCOG; former clinic physician, Workers' Compensation Board. Died Aug. 30, 2003, aged 55. 

**Holmes**, Francis R., St. Catharines, Ont.; University of Manitoba, 1953; Army, WW II; former staff, Welland County General Hospital. Died Aug. 31, 2003, aged 83. “He served in St. John Ambulance for 68 years.”

**Katz**, Eli, Cote Saint-Luc, Que.; McGill University, 1938; oto-rhino-laryngology; FRCSC; former emeritus chief, otolaryngology, and associate staff, Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Died Sept. 3, 2003, aged 90; survived by his wife, Grace, and 5 children.

**Millar**, Irene E., Surrey, BC; Queen's University, 1954; anesthesia; FRCPC; former staff, Surrey Memorial Hospital. Died Sept. 11, 2003, aged 73.

**Mowbray**, Peter J., Calgary; University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (England), 1964; family medicine; CCFP, FCFP; former staff and director, geriatrics and occupational health, Western Memorial Regional Hospital; aviation medical examiner. Died Aug. 24, 2003, aged 62; survived by his wife, Eve.

**Murray**, J. Leo, Etobicoke, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1941; Flt. Lieut., RCAF, WW II; co-founder and former staff, Humber Memorial Hospital. Died Sept. 12, 2003, aged 87; survived by his wife, Viola.

**Rang**, Mercer C., Toronto; University of London (England), 1956; orthopedic surgery; LRCP(Lond.), MRCS(Eng.), FRCS(Eng.), FRCSC; former staff, Hospital for Sick Children and Orthopedic and Arthritic Hospital; consultant, Hugh MacMillan Medical Centre; physician, Public Health, City of Toronto; professor, University of Toronto. Died from complications related to multiple myeloma Oct. 6, 2003, aged 70; survived by his wife, Helen, and 3 children.

**Reid**, Anne M., Edmonton; University of Aberdeen (Scotland), 1954; former staff, Hinton General Hospital; physician, University of Alberta Health Services; president, Federation of Medical Women of Canada. Died of a brain hemorrhage Aug. 27, 2003, aged 72; survived by her husband, Dr. Ian, and 2 sons. Her husband told reporters: “In the 1950s she was the only female doctor west of Edmonton. We were jacks of all trades.” 

**Tate**, Robert G., Vancouver; Queen's University, 1952; orthopedic surgery; FACS, FICS, FRCSC; former staff, Vancouver General and Children's hospitals; clinical instructor, University of British Columbia. Died Sept. 5, 2003, aged 79.

**Whiting**, R. Harvey, Sidney, BC; University of McGill, 1942; FACP, FRCPC; former chief of medicine, Royal Alexandra Hospital; staff, Baker Clinic, Edmonton. Died Aug. 30, 2003, aged 88; survived by his wife, Emma, and 2 daughters. His daughter Patty stated: “He will be remembered for his love of life, his sense of humour and his story telling. He loved to make people laugh.”
