That the HIV incidence in Aboriginal intravenous drug users in Vancouver is double that of the non Aboriginals is an appalling statistic which reflects on the HIV policy makers in this province. While the implicit message in this article is a search for new strategies ( 'Harm reduction', safe injection sites etc), the answers would appear to be glaringly obvious.

In the Dec B.C Medical Journal (BCMJ 44.10 551 -Dec 2002) the B.C. Center for Disease Control has published the Reportable diseases in British Columbia in two schedules, -A: Reportable by all sources and B: Reportable by laboratories only. Schedule A lists over 80 conditions from Anthrax to Yellow Fever and schedule B various organisms.

HIV is NOT on either list !
